How to delete your data

Last updated: September 10, 2026

When you connect Published to a social media account, we store an access token, your platform identifier and profile name, and the content and statistics we retrieve from the platform. The privacy policy says exactly what. This page describes how to get rid of that data again — from a single connection to the whole account.

What we store

The privacy policy lists every data category, purpose, and legal basis in its section on social media integrations. We do not repeat that here; this page only describes the way to deletion.

A · Disconnect a platform

Owners and admins of a brand can do this. Disconnecting removes the access token immediately; the platform itself is not told (that is step D).

  1. In the app, open “Settings” → “Brands” and pick the brand.
  2. Switch to “Social Accounts” and click “Disconnect” on the account in question.
  3. The dialog shows how many unpublished posts use this account. Default: the platform is removed from those posts, and their platform-specific caption, crops, and options are discarded. Posts with no other connected channel go back to drafts; all others continue as scheduled. Alternative: “Unschedule the affected posts instead and discard nothing”.
  4. Confirm. The access token (and, for Bluesky, the session) is deleted immediately, a running sync is stopped, and the connection is marked as disconnected.
  • What remains: the profile name and platform identifier of the disconnected connection, and the content already synchronised from it. They are removed together with the brand (step B, with the exceptions listed there) or on request (step C).
  • While a post is being published through this account, disconnecting is not possible — wait a moment and try again.
  • With a very large number of affected posts, the “unschedule” alternative is not available. Remove the platform from the individual posts instead, or use step C.

B · Delete a brand

Only the owner of the brand can do this.

  1. Open “Settings” → “Brands” and pick the brand.
  2. In the “General” area, go to the “Danger zone” and click “Delete brand”.
  3. Confirm. Removed from our database: uploads, variants and analyses, sets, posts, the platform connections including their access tokens, and the content synchronised from Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, and Pinterest.
  • What remains: synchronised Bluesky posts and comments, the Bluesky session, project assignments of uploads, and file copies in object storage. We remove these remnants and all file copies completely on request (step C).
  • The last remaining brand of an account cannot be deleted in the app — use step C for that.

C · Delete your account and all data

There is currently no automated account deletion. We carry out complete erasure by hand — it covers your account, your brands, uploads and file copies, all platform connections, and the remnants named in step B.

  1. Write to [email protected] from the email address of your account, subject “Delete my account”. If you are only an invited member of a brand, say so — we then delete your user data and leave the owner’s brand untouched.
  2. You receive an acknowledgement of receipt.
  3. We inform you of the outcome within one month of receipt (Article 12(3) GDPR).
  • What is retained despite an erasure request — invoices under commercial and tax law, for instance — is set out in the privacy policy under “Storage periods”.

D · Remove Published on the platform

You can also revoke Published’s access on the platform itself. That invalidates our access token there; we are not notified and delete nothing on our side. So use steps A to C as well.

  • Facebook: “Settings & privacy” → “Settings” → “Apps and websites” → “Remove” next to Published.
  • Instagram (in the browser): “More” → “Settings” → “Website permissions” → “Apps and Websites” → “Active” → “Remove”. The linked help page describes the way in the Instagram app.
  • TikTok: Profile → menu → “Settings and privacy” → “Security & permissions” → “Apps and services permissions” → Published → “Remove access”.
  • Pinterest: “Settings” → “Security”. Pinterest does not document the remove step — when in doubt, disconnect in our app (step A).
  • Threads: disconnect in our app (step A).
  • Menu names follow the platforms’ help pages and may differ by app version. The linked help page is the authority.
